Within the last few years, I have fostered a mutual friendship with Steele of Smif N Wessun. I have shot plenty of the imagery you have seen from him, in the last couple years. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to go through to the studio, where he was finalizing the mixing for his next project, General steele presents: Welcome to Bucktown. I heard a handful of tracks, and its great. Steele has shown me that with true belief in your craft and utter dedication and hustle, you can always keep creating without letting go of integrity or quality. Its very inspirational. There is no blackberry here folks, the man has a legal pad with his contacts on it, now that to me, is amazing. Cynical was there, holding it down, as usual, you need to not sleep on Cyn, such a dope director of motion picture. One of his people, Mantecha, was in the building working hard, passed out on the console. I believe.. I believe the real is on its way back..
A month or so ago, i went out the flushing, to get some korean food with my friend Stella Pak, Katie, and AC EVANS.. Its truly amazing to see how culture changes from neighborhood to hood, i’ve been living in queens for my entire life, and have been documenting it for sometime, because i feel it goes unnoticed. It is the most visual interesting place, because the people who fill the space bring a slice of their homeland, which makes it very dynamic. plus.. where-else does roasted pig roam wild.. check it enjoy.
One of the most cathartic times i have, and have had for sometime, is to disappear on the subway, with a camera and some music in my ears. Its amazing to see how the humans fill the space in the city. More interesting is their personal space and interaction. I see that people feel more comfortable and at ease on the subway, when its more crowded. They tend to get stuck in deep thought when its more empty, almost as if they are alone. These are some photos from last week, on the train, most of the stuff i have been shooting has been via a reflection in the subway walls, you can capture the true essence of a being.. enjoy.
A couple weekends ago, I felt the need to flee NY. It was a much needed perspective change. I caught up with some old friends. My homie Nic Cruz, and I, first went to Philly for a Blast Clothing launch at Pedestrian in Philly. Blast is a friend of mines line from Pittsburgh, super fresh design, so serious its not. At midnight we both hit the road, never ever will i spend a night in philly, a few bad experiences. Hit Baltimore at 3am, and linked with my friend Rarah, who is a sick sick photographer, as good as they get. Next day we hit PedX in Baltimore and linked with Garth, and my good friend Adam Stab, who is probably one of the trustest artists i have ever met. His way showed me its not about what you get from what you create, it has to be about what get from creating, that indescribable joy. I rounded my trip out kicking it with an old college friend, my boy Aaron, who is as grand a hustler as anyone i know, if you need high end flooring or anything to furnish your new crib, he’s the man. What i saw, well you gotta get yours anyway you chose.. a message i have to remember… please enjoy the photos.
Last week, my dude, Jayceeoh, threw down on the wheels of steel, for the one and only WhooKids Birthday extravaganza. The Taste Crew is holding it down.. Sutra.. all that..
